Join us as we celebrate Black History Month with a honorary street renaming in honor of Retired Major General Joseph McNeil, of the United States Airforce and founding member of the “Greensboro Four” civil rights sit-in, long time resident of the Village of Hempstead and a National Hero.

Hempstead Village, a book about the Village’s history, which has been written by Village Historian Reine Bethany and which contains a foreword by Mayor Ryan, will be published in March, 2018. The book is part of the Images of America series produced by Arcadia Publishing.

Village of Hempstead's yearlong anniversary will culminate in a celebration event taking place at Denton Green 11am - 4pm and will feature live music, foods that reflect the diversity of our community, games and activities for children and more.    Nichols Court will be renamed in honor of Hempstead's first African American Mayor James A. Garner!
